About Anaconda Youth in Action

Members of Anaconda Youth in Action conducting a session on the impact of HIV on economical, social and political context for grade 11 learners in 2008.

Anaconda Youth in Action has been established in 2003 at Mailaskop village by learners at Michael Denga Ramabulana Secondary School in the same village. The reason for its establishment was to create awareness for youth using performing arts such as drama, poetry and debates.

Since our establishment we have achieved several objectives including but not limited to:

The Learnership Programme
Three members of the organisation were enrolled on the Learnership programme for 6 months. Two were on Ancillary Health Care and one was on Social Auxiliary Work.

The project was funded by Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA).

Self Management Short Skills Programme
16 members of the organisation were capacitated on self management as part of short skills programme where the training was conducted for three days.

The project was also funded by Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority

School Educational Sessions
We have conducted educational sessions in local high school (Michael Denga Ramabulana Secondary) about different conditions such as HIV/AIDS, sexual transmitted Infections and related opportunistic infections.

Producing and Staging of educational stage plays
Several educational plays were written by members of the organisation, rehearsed and performed for the community as edutainment activities. The theme for the activities included HIV/AIDS and Teenage Pregnancy awareness.

 Production of a Organisational Newsletter
In 2007/8, we produced on a quarterly basis, an organisational newsletter which was pasted in community shops and other shops for people to read and see our project reports.
